Strength to Strength welcomed Glenn Martin to revisit a familiar story recorded in the Gospels.
Matthew recounts Jesus walking on the troubled waters to the disciples in the boat; perhaps more astounding, Peter famously stepped out of the boat to walk to Jesus, too.
Though everyone acknowledges that this story has a lesson to teach us, what is that lesson? Most commonly, Peter is commended for his courage to step out of the boat; we are encouraged to learn from Peter to keep our eyes on Jesus—not the circumstances around us—to prevent us from sinking. But is that view supported by the text? In this presentation, Glenn Martin challenges this view and offers a different conclusion.
An interactive question-and-answer period follows.

Glenn Martin has a passion for the Old Testament. With the conviction that “all these things happened to them as examples, and that they were written for our admonition,” he contends it should remain an instructive text for Christians today.
Outside of his employment obligations, he participates in a range of kingdom initiatives, including being a part of the Strength to Strength team.
Glenn is married to Mary Beth, and together they have two children. They are a part of Disciples’ Fellowship in Granby, Massachusetts where they are active church builders.
