Strength to Strength Sisters welcomed Marietta Yoder to discuss the power of intercessory prayer.

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

—James 5:16

Without prayer, ministry becomes a human effort that is like the vapor, shadow, grass. It will not last–only burn up. It becomes a burden-an idol.

Prayer causes the work you are engaged in to be eternal.  Prayer opens people’s heart to the Redeemer.  Prayer connects us to God so that His will is lived out on earth.  Prayer preserves a people from destruction.  It connects your spirit to the Fountain of great fruitfulness.

I will try to answer the following questions:

  • How do I keep from getting bored while praying?
  • If God wants to do something anyway, than why do I have to pray it?
  • Why don’t we see answers to prayer?
  • What examples are there of praying believers who overcame problems?

An interactive question-and-answer period follows.

Marietta Yoder grew up in Partridge, Kansas. She learned by watching the examples of her faithful, humble parents, Alvin and Barbara Yoder, whose daily prayers for each of their children shaped her life and calling.

Marietta’s work has centered on service, care, and Biblical teaching. Her parents’ prayers supported her as she served in an Arkansas nursing home, as a chaplain’s assistant in a women’s prison in Alabama, and in a clinic in rural El Salvador as a Bible teacher, counselor, and manager. Since 2019, Marietta has served as administrator with Hands of Christ Ministries, an outreach of Center Amish Mennonite Church that responds to calls from the impoverished of Hutchinson, KS.

Prayer has ever been Marietta’s passion. Her desire is to be where Jesus is, and to take part in what He is doing. The only answer for this broken world is the Great Redeemer’s intervention. She daily cries out for revival.
