Strength to Strength Sisters welcomed Crystal Johnson and Alyssa Wray to help us rediscover the vital role of sisters in the Christian community.
What are the roles and responsibilities of sisters in Christian community? Because women in many of our churches are not preaching at the Sunday gathering and are not in main leadership roles, it may feel as if their contributions are not as valuable or even necessary. But, is this truly the case? Women in the New Testament and throughout history have served vital roles in the Christian community. Alyssa and Crystal, two women living in community together, will be exploring some of the ways women can serve their churches and communities through activities like hospitality, prayer, discipleship, and acts of service which are all rooted in Christ’s own life of service here on earth.

Crystal Johnson lives in Boston with her husband Zack and three young children and fellowships with Followers of the Way. She is learning every day what it means to serve Jesus through homemaking, serving her church community, and loving her neighbors. She grew up on a farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in an Amish Mennonite church. Six years ago, she moved to Boston to be a student at Sattler College and then to set up a home with her husband. She enjoys creating traditions with her family, reading, selling secondhand books, and learning about urban gardening.

Alyssa Wray has been married to her best friend Clark for 12 years. They homeschool their four children, and everyone is excitedly waiting the arrival of another sibling due in March of 2026. Clark and Alyssa have been a part of an urban church with Followers of the Way in Boston for the last seven and a half years. They love living close and doing life with the church. Alyssa’s family enjoys adventures, traveling, exploring new places, and meeting new people. As they hold their hands open to the Lord, laboring in His kingdom, they are continually learning to surrender their own will as they seek the face of Jesus and what He wants for their lives.
